Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Practice
A Different Kind of Therapy Practice
Many therapists enjoy working with couples.
But few practices are structured to help clinicians develop real expertise in relationship therapy.
Communicate & Connect Counseling was built specifically for therapists who want to deepen their work in:
• couples therapy
• attachment science
• Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
If you are looking for a practice where clinical growth, mentorship, and relational work are central, this may be the right training environment for you.
Quick Navigation
Overview
Communicate & Connect Counseling is a specialty therapy clinic focused on couples therapy, relationship counseling, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).
Our clinicians help couples:
• rebuild emotional safety after relationship injuries
• reconnect after periods of disconnection
• navigate trauma and attachment wounds within relationships
• develop secure emotional bonds that support long-term connection
Many of the couples we serve include:
• military couples and veteran families
• partners navigating trauma and attachment injuries
• couples experiencing emotional disconnection
• partners facing intimacy challenges within long-term relationships
Communicate & Connect Counseling also serves as a training clinic for therapists who want to specialize in couples therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
We are seeking provisionally licensed therapists who want to build deeper expertise in relational therapy while receiving structured supervision and mentorship.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed based on supervision availability and office space capacity.
Why Therapists Choose Communicate & Connect
Many group practices offer general outpatient therapy.
Communicate & Connect Counseling focuses specifically on relationship therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
Our practice environment is designed to support therapists who want to grow in relational work.
Our administrative team supports client referrals and scheduling so clinicians can focus primarily on providing therapy.
Clinicians here benefit from:
• a collaborative team of therapists focused on relationship work
• weekly Emotionally Focused Therapy consultation
• mentorship from EFT-trained clinicians
• exposure to complex couples therapy cases
• support pursuing ICEEFT certification
• a clinical culture centered on learning and professional development
Couples therapy is complex and emotionally demanding work. Our consultation structure is designed to support clinicians in navigating that complexity.
Our goal is not simply to build a caseload.
Our goal is to help clinicians develop strong clinical foundations in relational therapy.
Clinical Environment & Practice Support
Therapists at Communicate & Connect Counseling are supported by an environment designed to allow clinicians to focus on meaningful clinical work.
Our practice provides:
• beautifully designed office spaces in prime locations
• consistent client referrals
• administrative staff who assist with billing and scheduling
• support for both in-person and telehealth sessions
• ongoing Emotionally Focused Therapy group consultation (currently Mondays at 12 PM)
• consultation with other relationship-focused clinicians
• licensure supervision for provisionally licensed therapists
• opportunities for additional psychotherapy training (including EFT and related modalities)
• paid time off for full-time employees
Our goal is to create a practice where therapists can focus primarily on clinical work, professional development, and helping couples heal their relationships.
Role & Responsibilities
Provisionally licensed therapists at Communicate & Connect Counseling provide therapy services within a collaborative training environment focused on relationship counseling and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
Responsibilities include:
• providing individual therapy, couples counseling, and family therapy
• conducting relational and attachment-focused assessments
• developing attachment-based treatment plans
• maintaining timely and ethical clinical documentation
• participating in supervision and consultation
• contributing to a collaborative clinical team
This role is well suited for clinicians who want to develop advanced clinical skills in couples therapy and relational work early in their careers.
Clinical Orientation
Communicate & Connect Counseling is grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an evidence-based model of couples therapy developed by Dr. Sue Johnson.
Our clinical work draws from:
• Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT)
• Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT)
• Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT)
• attachment science
• trauma-informed relational therapy
Applicants must have completed the ICEEFT Emotionally Focused Therapy Externship prior to applying.
Scheduling Expectations
Communicate & Connect Counseling operates using structured clinical shifts to support predictable scheduling for both clinicians and clients.
Available Shifts
Monday – Friday
8:00 AM – 2:00 PM
2:30 PM – 8:30 PM
Saturday & Sunday
9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Each shift is 6 hours, with the expectation that clinicians complete 5 clinical sessions during the shift.
The remaining time allows for:
• brief breaks between sessions
• documentation
• preparation for sessions
Clinicians typically commit to:
• a minimum of 3 shifts per week
• at least one evening or weekend shift
All clinicians provide therapy in person at our office locations, though some clients may choose telehealth sessions.
Fully remote positions are not available.
Current Caseload Model
We are currently seeking provisionally licensed clinicians who are open to a blended private-pay and insurance-based caseload.
Communicate & Connect Counseling remains focused on private-pay couples and family therapy. However, building a full private-pay caseload can take time, particularly for clinicians who want a higher weekly caseload.
To provide greater income stability while clinicians build their private-pay caseloads—and to create variety for therapists who do not want to see couples exclusively—we have joined Headway as a group practice for insurance billing for individual therapy.
Headway does not currently support supervisory billing for provisionally licensed clinicians, although this capability is anticipated in the coming months. As supervisory billing becomes available, we expect this to expand the insurance options available to provisionally licensed therapists within the practice.
In the meantime, provisionally licensed clinicians may build a blended caseload using the insurance and private-pay options for which they are currently eligible.
Clinicians can:
- Provide private-pay couples and family therapy
- Accept insurance for individual therapy through Headway when eligible
- Work with the practice to select which insurance plans they participate with
- Build toward a larger private-pay caseload over time
Because our practice has a strong focus on serving military and veteran families, we are particularly interested in clinicians who are open to working with TRICARE beneficiaries through supervisory billing. Provisionally licensed clinicians cannot independently become TRICARE Certified Non-Network providers; when eligible, services may be provided under the supervision of a TRICARE Certified Non-Network supervising clinician and billed under the supervisor’s credentials.
At this time, we are only considering applicants who are open to incorporating insurance-based individual therapy into their caseload while continuing to provide private-pay couples and family therapy.
Compensation
Communicate & Connect Counseling uses a W-2 percentage-based compensation model designed to combine the earning potential of percentage-based clinical compensation with the protections and benefits associated with W-2 employment.
How Clinical Compensation Works
Provisionally licensed therapists earn: 35% of collected clinical revenue
This includes revenue collected from:
- Private-pay clinical services
- Insurance reimbursements
- Late-cancellation fees
- No-show fees
Rather than waiting for an insurance company or client payment to be collected before receiving any compensation, clinicians are initially paid $20 per clinical hour through regular payroll.
Once payment for that service is received by the practice, the $20 clinical wage already paid is credited toward the clinician’s 35% commission, and the remaining commission owed is paid through payroll.
For example, if the practice collects $175 for a session, 35% equals $61.25 in clinician compensation. If the clinician has already received $20 for that clinical hour, the remaining $41.25 is paid after the revenue is collected.
For late cancellations and no-shows, clinicians receive 35% of the collected cancellation or no-show fee.
Required non-clinical work—including staff meetings, consultation, trainings, and other required administrative activities—is compensated separately at $20 per hour and is not deducted from clinical commissions.
Understanding the Full Compensation Package
Provisionally licensed clinicians receive more than their direct clinical compensation.
Communicate & Connect Counseling also invests in the professional development required to help early-career therapists grow toward independent licensure and advanced specialization in relationship therapy.
Depending on the clinician’s position and eligibility, this may include:
- Employer-paid payroll taxes and eligible W-2 employee benefits
- Licensure supervision provided at the practice’s expense
- Weekly EFT consultation
- Professional development and training opportunities
- Support developing advanced competency in couples and relationship therapy
- Support pursuing ICEEFT certification
This allows provisionally licensed therapists to earn income while receiving the supervision, consultation, and specialized training needed to develop as relationship therapists.
Quarterly Productivity Bonuses
Provisionally licensed clinicians who maintain larger caseloads have the opportunity to increase their direct clinical compensation:
| Compensation | Standard | 20+ Clinical Hours/Week* | 25+ Clinical Hours/Week* |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paid directly to clinician | 35% | 38% | 40% |
*The 38% and 40% compensation levels include the applicable quarterly productivity bonus. Clinicians averaging 20–24 completed clinical hours per week may earn an additional 3%, while clinicians averaging 25+ completed clinical hours per week may earn an additional 5%.
What Could My Annual Earnings Look Like?
Because clinicians may build a combination of insurance-based and private-pay clients, earnings vary based on caseload size, payer mix, session type, and eligibility for productivity bonuses.
For a 90837 individual therapy session, current reimbursement can vary considerably depending on the payer:
| Type of Payment | Approx. Amount Collected per Session |
|---|---|
| Lower-paying insurance | ~$90 |
| Higher-paying insurance | ~$125 |
| TRICARE reimbursement when eligible | ~$150 |
| Provisionally licensed therapist private pay | $175 |
These amounts are examples rather than guaranteed reimbursement rates. Insurance reimbursement varies by payer, CPT code, clinician eligibility, and other factors. Shorter individual therapy sessions may reimburse at lower rates.
Our primary insurance model is designed to allow clinicians to use insurance for individual therapy while maintaining private-pay couples and family therapy. Clinicians can work with the practice to determine which available insurance options make the most sense for their caseload.
Therapists who are particularly interested in accepting insurance for couples or family therapy may discuss that option with us. Because insurance reimbursement for couples and family therapy is generally much lower than our private-pay rates, our primary model is to maintain couples and family therapy as private-pay services.
Illustrative Annual Clinical Earnings
The examples below demonstrate how caseload size and average revenue collected per session can affect annual clinical earnings.
| Average Completed Sessions | ~$90 Avg. Collected | ~$125 Avg. Collected | ~$150 Avg. Collected | $175 Private Pay |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 15/week — 35% | $22,680 | $31,500 | $37,800 | $44,100 |
| 20/week — 38%* | $32,832 | $45,600 | $54,720 | $63,840 |
| 25/week — 40%* | $43,200 | $60,000 | $72,000 | $84,000 |
*Examples at the 38% and 40% compensation levels assume the clinician meets the applicable quarterly productivity requirements.
Annual examples assume 48 working weeks per year, allowing approximately four weeks away from clinical work.
These examples are illustrative and are not guaranteed compensation. Actual earnings depend on completed sessions, amounts actually collected, payer mix, CPT codes billed, caseload volume, time off, clinician eligibility for insurance reimbursement, and productivity bonus eligibility.
The annual estimates above also do not include compensation from collected late-cancellation or no-show fees.
Licensure Supervision & Professional Development
One of the primary benefits of joining Communicate & Connect Counseling as a provisionally licensed therapist is the opportunity to receive licensure supervision and specialized clinical development within the practice.
Eligible clinicians receive licensure supervision provided by qualified supervisors at the practice’s expense.
Depending on licensure track, supervision may be available for:
- Residents in Counseling
- Residents in Marriage and Family Therapy
- Supervisees in Clinical Social Work
Our training environment goes beyond the supervision required for licensure. Clinicians also participate in ongoing consultation and professional development designed to help them build confidence and develop advanced skills in relationship therapy.
Weekly EFT Group Consultation
Mondays at 12:00 PM EST
Weekly consultation focuses on:
- Attachment-based case conceptualization
- Experiential EFT interventions
- Therapist presence and use-of-self
- Navigating complex couples therapy dynamics
These meetings provide clinicians with ongoing opportunities to bring cases, strengthen their understanding of EFT, and learn alongside other relationship-focused therapists.
Monthly Staff Meetings
Monthly staff meetings include:
- Clinical consultation
- Practice updates
- Professional development
Quarterly Continuing Education
Quarterly meetings feature guest speakers and continuing education trainings, providing additional opportunities for clinicians to expand their knowledge and clinical skills.
Developing Beyond Licensure
Our goal is not simply to help provisionally licensed therapists complete the hours required for independent licensure.
Our goal is to help clinicians become confident, skilled relationship therapists who are prepared for independent clinical practice and, for those who choose, continued development toward advanced EFT training and ICEEFT certification.
