In-person therapy available at all three of our VA office locations: Fairfax, Virginia Beach, and Newport News!
You remember a time when feeling anxious and insecure in your relationship weren’t the “norm” … But those days feel like a distant memory. Don’t you wish you had the tools to change that?

They’ve already tried talking things through. They’ve read the books. They’ve worked hard to be patient and understanding.
But the same conversations keep happening—and nothing seems to change for long.
If that sounds familiar, you’re in the right place.
Communicate & Connect Counseling is an attachment-based therapy practice specializing in Emotionally Focused Therapy for individuals, couples, and families. Since opening in 2020, our team has supported thousands of therapy appointments with clients working to rebuild connection, reduce repeated conflict cycles, and feel more secure in their relationships. Since July 2022 alone, our team has provided over 20,000 therapy appointments to individuals, couples, and families across Virginia.
At Communicate & Connect Counseling, our work is guided by the Spiral to Team Process.
Most couples and families come to therapy feeling stuck in a repeating interaction cycle. One person reaches out. The other pulls back. Conversations escalate or shut down. Over time, both people begin feeling misunderstood and alone.
The Spiral to Team Process helps you:
Instead of focusing only on what to say differently, therapy focuses on changing the pattern underneath the conversation. This is what helps relationships begin feeling more secure again.
Many counseling approaches focus mostly on communication strategies or coping tools.
Our work focuses on understanding the interaction patterns underneath conflict so change feels lasting instead of temporary.

Communicate & Connect Counseling is an Emotionally Focused Therapy training clinic serving individuals, couples, and families across Virginia.
Our therapists are trained in:
Because we are a training clinic, our team includes clinicians at multiple stages of professional development, including student interns, provisionally licensed therapists, and licensed therapists pursuing advanced EFT certification.
Every therapist works within the same attachment-based approach and receives ongoing supervision and consultation to support high-quality care.
Intern clinicians offer reduced-fee sessions as one way we help make therapy more accessible for clients. This structure allows us to offer multiple pathways into therapy depending on your needs, schedule, and budget.
In addition to supporting the development of therapists within our practice, we also provide supervision and continuing education for clinicians outside our team who are learning Emotionally Focused Therapy. This training-clinic structure helps expand access to attachment-based care across Virginia.

Communicate & Connect Counseling was founded by Dr. Elizabeth Polinsky, an Emotionally Focused Therapy supervisor and certified sex therapist who specializes in helping individuals, couples, and families create lasting relationship change using attachment-based therapy.
Dr. Polinsky comes from a dual-military family and is a military spouse. Her experience supporting military-connected relationships helped shape the vision for Communicate & Connect Counseling as a practice that brings attachment-based therapy to communities where strong relationships matter most.
One of her professional goals is helping develop Emotionally Focused Therapy training clinics in military-connected regions so both clients and therapists have greater access to attachment-based care.
Communicate & Connect Counseling continues to grow as a training-focused EFT clinic supporting both clients and therapists across Virginia.
Because of our location and our clinical focus, many of the individuals and couples we serve are connected to military life. We regularly support clients navigating:
Dr. Polinsky also created the Communicate & Connect Podcast for Military Relationships to make attachment-based relationship support more accessible to military members, veterans, and spouses who may not always be able to attend couples counseling due to time, deployments, or financial barriers.
The podcast is one way we extend relationship support beyond the therapy office so military families can access attachment-based tools even during demanding seasons.

Together, we work toward building relationships that feel more secure, supportive, and connected.

Many people tell us that one of the first changes they notice is a sense of relief that conversations finally start going differently. Clients often begin to:
These early shifts often become the foundation for deeper and more lasting change over time.
Therapy at Communicate & Connect Counseling is collaborative and structured around helping you understand what is happening underneath difficult conversations.
First, you and your therapist identify the relationship patterns creating stress. Next, therapy focuses on slowing those patterns down so new conversations become possible.
Over time, many clients begin to:
This process helps relationships begin feeling steadier and more connected again.
Each therapist at Communicate & Connect Counseling is trained in attachment-based approaches and works from a shared model focused on helping clients change relationship patterns in a supportive and structured way.

Schedule a 20-minute consultation to ask questions and make sure the practice feels like a good fit.
Because Emotionally Focused Therapy works best when sessions are consistent and connected from week to week, most therapy begins with a weekly structure. If weekly therapy is not the right fit for your schedule or needs, we also offer structured alternatives such as the 10-week Hold Me Tight program and couples intensives. Together, you’ll identify the interaction patterns affecting your relationships and begin learning new ways to respond to each other.
As therapy progresses, many clients begin feeling safer, more understood, and more confident in their relationships.
